The orientation workshop of the Legislative Internship Programme has come to an end and participants are departing to begin internship at various Houses of Assembly. With nostalgia, I look back on the beginning of this wonderful journey.
It started with an advert in the Punch newspaper calling for applications. Initially, my application did not go through. About a year later, I got a phone call.
“Are you available to join the Legislative Internship programme in July?” the caller asked in a soft and polite voice.
“Why not?” I responded in excitement. My curiosity had been sufficiently aroused. A million questions buzzed through my brain, but most importantly I wanted to push my understanding of the legislative process beyond my government and public law textbooks. Indeed my chance had come!
